Isn’t it funny that for all the politically correct drama that arose from Eddie McGuire’s ‘anti-gay’ comments, you would think that Australia really loves their gays. But why is it everytime the marriage issue is brought up the powers serves us the same bullshit over and over again?
The Senate not only denied gay Australians the right to be legally married. They downright laughed and spit in their faces.
45-5 voted against the marriage bill put forth by the ACT Greens. 45 to 5.
To make matters worse 26 senators chose not to attend to vote, because they disagreed with their parties’ official stances against same-sex marriage.
In the short time since I started writing on this blog I have come across many stories about other governments refusing equal marriage rights to their LGBT community, but this takes the cake for the most disheartening and defeating news.
I feel deeply hurt by the apathy these people displayed, especially from the gay community who should feel outraged that their Prime Minister who they voted for doesn’t give a shit about gay rights. But I guess that doesn’t really concern them right now. Why let something as irrelevant as equal rights drag down a good party eh?
Despite your gender at birth, trans should be allowed the Change of Birth Registry and allowed legal marriage.
